Lecture 7 - Erik Kessels
In association with think4.
Lecture date:
21 October 2008, BAFTA, London
The seventh lecture at BAFTA's headquarters was given by Ad Man, Erik Kessels. Best known as co-founder of the KesselsKramer advertising agency in
Amsterdam, Kessels
works and has worked for national
and international clients such as Nike,
Diesel, Heineken, Oxfam, Ben and
The Hans Brinker Budget Hotel.
The supplementary journal of lecture 7 shows a mixture of Kessels' work, in particular and an area which he is favourable in, "Found Photography". Kessels' lecture like all before it was received by a packed auditorium at BAFTA and was probably the most distinctive of our events to date.

In an extract from his foreword to the journal, Adrian Shaughnessy writes;
"There’s nothing stereotypical about Kessels or the work of his Amsterdam/London-based ad agency KesselsKramer. For many observers of the visual communication scene, KesselsKramer is one of only a handful of advertising agencies producing work that rises above the level of consumerist background noise.
KesselsKramer campaigns are often witty and irreverent, almost anti-advertising. Writing in Graphis, one writer noted: “The Hans Brinker Budget Hotel campaign has the hotel promoting itself with slogans like: ‘Now even more dogshit in the main entrance!’ or ‘Now even more noise!’
Kessels is a photography collector and has published several books of his ‘collected’ images”. He has lectured at the D&AD Presidents Lecture and at several international design conferences such as in Singapore, Goa, Toronto and Bangkok."
